CHANDRA, The MOON

CHANDRA is a beautiful name. In Hindu it translates as Moon. There are variations of Moon postures in our yoga practice. This evolved from the ancient yogis living upon the Earth and viewing the Moon and the Sun above. A long time ago before calendars and the internet, earth dwellers watched these celestial bodies. It  influenced their thinking beyond the earthly plane of existence. The Sun and Moon symbolized their view of Life. These Vedic people noticed that the Moon’s light transformed within a 28 day cycle while the Sun remained constantly bright. For them, the Sun symbolized permanence and immortality while the Moon represented change and rebirth.
